After studying physics at the University of Paris-Sorbonne, Adrien Mathonat began his musical training by learning the trumpet and tuba, for which he obtained the Master Degree in 2017. He later discovered singing and decided to study opera singing. He joined the class of the soprano Maryse Castets at the conservatory of Bordeaux in 2018, which was an opportunity for him to perform in various productions and concerts. He took part in various masterclasses, including those of Gerald Findley, Irene Kudela on the Slavic repertoire, Patrick Bolleire, Jeff Cohen and Jean-François Lombard on the Baroque repertoire.
In the summer of 2021, he sang the role of Sarastro in The Magic Flute at the Samoëns Opera Festival.
More recently, he sang Bach’s Magnificat under the baton of Raphaël Pichon in Bordeaux, as well as Mozart’s Requiem at the Toulon Opera.
Having joined the Paris Opera Academy in September 2022, he made his debut in Rossini’s Stabat Mater,
he appears in the film-recital Nocturne, vidéo en-chantée imagined by Denis Guéguin.
In January 2022 during the Gala of the Academy at the Palais Garnier he sang the aria of Claudius in Hamlet with the Orchestre de l’Opéra National de Paris conducted by Nil Venditti.
With the artists of the Academy, he performed in Paris, at the Palazzetto Bru Zane in Venice and at the Musikfestspiele in Saarland in a program dedicated to women composers.
In June 2023, he performed the role of the Sacerdote (Scarlatti’s La Giuditta) in the auditorium of the Louvre with the orchestra Les Accents, under the baton of Thibault Noally. In August 2023 he made his debut as Masetto and Commendatore in Don Giovanni at the Sanxay Festival. In Septembre 2023, he portrayed Seneca (Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea) at the Opéra de Rennes, in a staging by Ted Huffman.At the Paris Opera he sang L’Arbre in L’Enfant et les Sortilèges in December 2023 and in January 2024 he sang Curio in Handel’s Julius Caesar conducted by Harry Becket in Garnier.
In April 2024 he performed the role of Mister Olsen in Kurt Weil’s Street Scene, in a staging by Ted Huffman at MC93.
In August 2024 he made his debut in Coline in La Bohème at the Sanxay Festival.
Next season he will perform Gremin in Eugene Onegin in Nancy, and he will make his debut at the Teatro alla Scala in The Name of the Rose, contemporary opera composed by Franscesco Filidei.
