Dmitry Golovnin’s recent performances included Herman in Pique Dame at the Michailovsky Theatre, both Agrippa and Mephisto in The Fiery Angel at Teatro Real Madrid, Karl VII in Die Jungfrau von Orléans at Theater St. Gallen and Grigori Otrepjew in Boris Godunow at Staatsoper Wien, both Agrippa and Mephisto in The Fiery Angel for Zurich Opera with Gianandrea Noseda and Calixto Bieito, Don Juan in Dargomyschsky’s The Stone Guest at the Bolshoi in Moscow, Prince in Rusalka for Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Alexei in Prokofiev’s The Gambler at Theater Basel as well as his debuts at Opéra Bastille in Paris as Grigoriy in Boris Godunov with Vladimir Jurowski and at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam with Pablo Heras-Casado.

In the season of 2020/21 he reprised the role of Sergei in Lady Macbeth of Mzensk at Oper Frankfurt. His other engagements include Agrippa in The Fiery Angel at The Metropolitan Opera New York (cancelled due to Covid19).

In 2019/20 he made his debuts at Oper Frankfurt in the role Sergei in Lady Macbeth of Mzensk. Further engagements included Herman in Queen of Spades at La Monnaie, Bruxelles, Giorgi in Boris Godunow at Opera National de Paris (cancelled due to Covid 19), Prince Vasily in Boris Godunow for Salzburger Festspiele (cancelled due to Covid 19).

Past engagements include Grishka in Kitezh at the Liceu Barcelona, both Andrey Khovansky and King Kandaules in Antwerp as well as Albert in The Miserly Knight and Dante in Francesca da Rimini in Brussels, Agrippa and Mephistopheles in Fiery Angel for Komische Oper Berlin and Lyon, Prince Myshkin in the world premiere of Weinberg’s The Idiot in Mannheim (honoured as “best debut performance” in 2013), Erik in Der Fliegende Holländer at Mikhailovsky Theater St. Petersburg, Painter in American Lulu for Theater an der Wien and Don José in Riga.

Since 2007 Dmitry is a member of the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St Petersburg singing roles such as Don José, Lykov in The Tsar’s Bride, Prince in Rusalka, Cavaradossi, Turiddu, Pinkerton, Vaudémont, Gustavo in Un ballo in maschera, and Erik in Der Fliegende Holländer (nominated for the Golden Mask Award in category Best Opera Performer in 2013).

Dmitry first graduated from the St Petersburg Conservatory as a trumpet player and joined the Orchestra of the St Petersburg State Capella. In 2001 he began his vocal studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Hamburg with William Workman and took lessons with Franz Grundheber, Elena Obraztsova and Badri Maisuradze.
