Biographie / biography

Russian baritone Boris Statsenko studied singing in Chelyabinsk and at the Moscow State Conservatory. He has won prizes in numerous competitions, including the Maria Callas Competition in 1989.
After completing his studies, he was a member of the ensemble at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow from 1990 to 1993, followed by an engagement at the Chemnitz Theater.
From 1999 to 2017 Boris Statsenko was a member of the ensemble at Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where he sang all the major baritone roles.

His repertoire includes over 50 roles in Russian, Italian and German, including Enrico ("Lucia di Lammermoor"), Verdi's Rigoletto, Macbeth, Nabucco, Jago ("Otello"), Conte di Luna ("Il Trovatore"), Giorgio Germont ("La traviata"), Posa ("Don Carlos"), Renato ("Un ballo in Maschera") , Miller ("Luisa Miller") as well as Tonio (Leoncavallo "Pagliacci"), Puccini's Scarpia ("Tosca") and Michele ("Il tabarro"), King Dodon (Rimsky-Korsakov "The Golden Rooster"), Ruprecht (Prokofiev " The Fiery Angel"), as well as Wagner's Wolfram von Eschenbach ("Tannhäuser") and Amfortas ("Parsifal").

His many guest engagements have taken him internationally to major opera houses and concert halls in, for example, Hamburg, Dresden, Berlin, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Essen, Cologne , Helsinki, Oslo, Amsterdam, Brussels, Liege, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Strasbourg, Marseille, Savo nlinna, Verona, Vienna, Tel Aviv, Ostrava, Geneva, Prague, Graz, Paris, Turin, Copenhagen, Montpellier, Palermo, Venice, London or Tokyo as well as to Moscow, where he sings regularly at the Neue Oper. He was nominated for the Golden Mask in 2006 for the role of Napoleon (Prokofiev's "War and Peace") at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow.

In the 2021/22 season, Boris Statsenko will make guest appearances as Carlo Gérard in Giordano's Andrea Chénier and in the title role of Verdi's Macbeth at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
